East Central Indiana high school baseball scores, top performers from April 28-May 3
It was another exciting week of baseball in East Central Indiana. Here are the scores and top performers for each high school baseball team in the Muncie area for the week of April 28-May 3:
Teams are in alphabetical order
Blackford Bruins (7-9)
- April 29: lost 6-2 at Eastbrook
- April 30: lost 9-0 vs. Alexandria-Monroe
- May 2: lost 10-0 at Shenandoah
Top Performance: Corbin Batten logged an RBI single against Eastbrook on April 29.
Blue River Valley Vikings (7-5)
- April 28: won 17-8 at Tri
- April 29: lost 11-2 vs. Cowan
- May 1: won 4-2 at Wes-Del
- May 3: canceled at Liberty Christian (doubleheader)
Top Performance:Kalub Heltzel was in command on the mound against Wes-Del. The sophomore went five innings, giving up just one hit and two walks while logging five strikeouts.
Cowan Blackhawks (7-5)
- April 28: won 19-1 vs. Seton Catholic
- April 29: won 11-2 at Blue River Valley
- May 1: lost 11-1 at Wapahani
- May 3: postponed vs. Frankton
Top Performance: Jaydon Auker went 2-for-5 at the plate, doubling on both hits, and scored three runs against Blue River Valley on April 29.
Daleville Broncos (6-6)
- April 29: lost 6-3 at Shenandoah
- April 30: lost 9-6 vs. Frankton
Top Performance: Carson Tighe went 2-for-3 with one RBI and scored a run against Frankton on April 30.
Delta (9-6)
- April 28: won 23-2 at Muncie Central
- April 29: lost 7-2 vs. Shelbyville
- April 30: lost 4-0 at Shelbyville
- May 2: won 6-2 at Connersville
Top Performance: Kaeb Stebbins pitched six innings against Connersville, giving up two runs on six hits and one walk while logging nine strikeouts. He also hit a solo home run in the fourth inning.
Jay County Patriots (4-8)
- April 28: won 14-3 vs. Monroe Central
- May 1: lost 3-0 vs. Adams Central
- May 3: lost 8-2 vs. Park Tudor (Wapahani Invitational)
Top Performance: Carter Fugiett was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate against Monroe Central, including a double and a home run. He drove in five runs in the process.
Monroe Central Golden Bears (9-9)
- April 28: lost 14-3 at Jay County
- April 29: lost 6-4 vs. Wapahani
- May 1: won 7-3 at Eastern Hancock
- May 2: won 15-9 at Muncie Central
Top Performance: Kyler Bogue hit a two-run home run on May 1 against Eastern Hancock.
Muncie Burris Owls (5-9)
- April 28: won 16-6 vs. Anderson Prep Academy
- April 30: won 12-1 vs. Union (Modoc)
- May 2: lost 22-3 vs. Cambridge City Lincoln
- May 3: lost 9-8 at Muncie Central
Top Performance: Dane Adams went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and scored twice against APA on April 28.
Muncie Central Bearcats (3-13)
- April 28: lost 23-2 vs. Delta
- May 2: lost 15-9 vs. Monroe Central
- May 3: won 9-8 vs. Muncie Burris
Top Performance: Rodney Dabney went 2-for-3 and drove in three runs in a win over Muncie Burris on May 3.
New Castle Trojans (5-11)
- April 28: won 9-0 vs. Centerville
- April 29: lost 7-0 at Yorktown
- April 30: lost 8-6 vs. Yorktown
- May 2: won 10-6 vs. Hagerstown
Top Performance: Brayden Hancock pitched a complete game shutout against Centerville on April 28. He allowed just three hits and one walk and recorded seven strikeouts.
Shenandoah Raiders (10-3)
- April 28: lost 25-1 at Lapel
- April 29: won 6-3 vs. Daleville
- May 1: won 13-3 vs. Randolph Southern
- May 2: won 10-0 vs. Blackford
Top Performance: Collin Osenbaugh pitched a no-hitter against Blackford, going five innings with one walk and 10 strikeouts. On top of that, he hit two home runs for a total of five RBIs.
Wapahani Raiders (10-4)
- April 28: won 9-4 vs. Yorktown
- April 29: won 6-4 at Monroe Central
- May 1: won 11-1 vs. Cowan
- May 3: won 4-2 vs. Bluffton (Wapahani Invitational)
- May 3: won 4-3 vs. Park Tudor (Wapahani Invitational)
Top Performance: Clay Estep was seeing beach balls instead of baseballs against Bluffton in the first round of the Wapahani Invitational. Estep went 3-for-3 at the plate, doubled twice and drove in three runs.
Wes-Del Warriors (5-10)
- April 28: won 20-17 at Elwood
- May 1: lost 4-2 vs. Blue River Valley
- May 2: lost 16-6 at Peru
Top Performance: Eli Sherfy went 2-for-5 and drove in six runs in a win over Elwood on April 28.
Winchester Community Golden Falcons (8-2)
- April 28: won 16-10 vs. Cambridge City Lincoln
- May 1: won 10-2 at Anderson
Top Performance: Aidan Weatherhead went 2-for-3 at the plate and drove in four runs against Anderson on May 1.
Yorktown Tigers (8-7)
- April 28: lost 9-4 at Wapahani
- April 29: won 7-0 vs. New Castle
- April 30: won 8-6 at New Castle
- May 1: won 15-1 vs. Northeastern
Top Performance: Palmer Jones and Ryan Burkholder combined to pitch a shutout against conference rival New Castle on April 29. Jones went the first five innings and gave up just two hits and three walks while striking out eight before Burkholder took over in the last two innings, where he allowed no hits and two walks while striking out five.
