Easton Winfield decides to leave the Longhorns, enters transfer portal

The Longhorns baseball roster has taken another hit. On Sunday, outfielder Easton Winfield announced that he was entering the transfer portal. After one year with Texas, he will be looking to carve out a significant role with a different program. 

In 24 games during the 2025 campaign, the Alvin High School product posted a .250 batting average and drove in eight runs. He also showed some power with five extra-base hits, including four doubles. While he did battle injuries throughout the year, Winfield was solid when healthy. 

Although last year was full of ups and downs, Winfield has had success at the college level. He spent his freshman season with Louisiana-Monroe, Where he was a hits machine. In 54 games as a Warhawk, Winfield posted a .332 batting average and drove in 40 runs. He also recorded ten home runs and eight doubles. 

As Winfield looks for a new opportunity, he is not in unfamiliar territory. This is the second time in his college career that he has entered the portal. There is still plenty of upside to his game that should draw the interest of programs in need of outfield help. 

So far this offseason, the Longhorns have lost 13 players to the portal. However, they have been busy improving their depth and adding some of the best bats and pitchers available. That includes s Kaleb Freeman, Carson Tinney, Haiden Leffew, and Jack Moroknek. If they can meet expectations, Texas will be in good hands. 

Just over a year ago, Winfield was a popular name in the portal, and he should again draw plenty of interest.
