Elena Krause strikes out 14 in tossing two-hitter for Pontiac
Elena Krause had her mojo working in the circle and at the plate as the Stanford signee tossed a two-hit shutout in a 5-0 nonconference softball win over host Lincoln on Thursday.
Krause set down 14 Railsplitters on strikes as the Tribe improved to 18-8. She allowed lead-off singles in the second and fifth innings. She also walked two.
Krause helped her cause with three hits, including a double, and two runs batted in. Tessa Collins had two hits while India Mattingly and Nevaeh Vogt each had a two-base hit. Izzy Hinz singled and Liv Lindsay drove in a run.
Pontiac 4, GSW 0 – At Pontiac, Payton Rogers struck out five in combining with starter Natalie Zimmerman in shutting out Gardner-South Wilmington in a nonconference contest at The Diamond at Williamson Field on May 14. Zimmerman fanned one in picking up the win.
Seniors Elena Krause and Tessa Collins paced the Tribe’s offense. Krause had a triple, single and scored twice, while Collins had a double, single and drove in a run. India Mattingly and Liv Lindsay had a hit and RBI each.
Lexington-Ridgeview 17, Warrensburg-Latham 2 – At Warrensburg, Allison Epley drove in six runs to lead Lexington-Ridgeview to a lopsided nonconference victory over host Warrensburg-Latham May 14. Epley opened the scoring with a bases-loaded double in the first inning. She added a three-run homer later in the inning to give the Minutemen a 12-0 lead. Cori Pearce followed with a solo shot as L-R tallied 13 markers in the opening frame.
Ella Sunday had four hits, including a pair of doubles, drove in three runs and scored thrice to help pace the Lexington-Ridgeview (15-14) offense. Eleana Atkins contributed two doubles, a single, three RBIs and three runs while Pearce had a homer among her three hits. She also plated two runs. Eva McCue had three hits, including a two-bagger, Epley had two hits and six RBIs and Belle Payne had a two-base hit. Brooke Stover and Josie Thomas each singled. Payne struck out four in the circle for the win.
Pontiac 0, Prairie Central 0 – At Fairbury, the score was tied at 0-0 when the teams were pulled off the field as rain brought a premature stop to the Illini Prairie Conference contest game on May 13. Elena Krause had pitched four innings of no-hit ball for Pontiac. She recorded nine strikeouts. PC’s Dixie Hogan was nearly as strong, allowing just three hits with one punchout over four innings.
Izzy Hinz had a double while Krause and Tessa Collins each singled for the Tribe.
Dwight 8, WFC 5 – At Woodland, Dwight completed the Tri-County Conference sweep of Woodland-Flanagan-Cornell on May 13. Madi Ely was the star for the Trojans with three hits, including a double and triple, two runs batted in and scored twice. She struck out five in 2 1/3 innings in the circle.
Mckenna Woodcock, Dori Wilson (RBI) and Mikayla Ely (RBI) had two hits apiece while Sarah Parker (2 RBIs), Averi Jury, Taylor Frobish and Mia Franklin (RBI) each singled. Jury started in the circle, fanning seven in 4 2-3 innings.
Olivia Chismarick had a triple, double and scored twice for the Warriors. Emma Palaschak collected three hits and drove in a run and Ella Derossett singled.
Dwight 7, WFC 0 – At Dwight, the host Trojans were in control when rain shortened the front end of the TCC home-and-home series with WFC on May 12. Madi Ely had registered seven strikeouts and allowed one hit in the circle for DTHS.
Dori Wilson belted a grand slam for Dwight in the first inning. Raegen Brown had a double while Ely and Jury each singled.
Palaschak had the Warriors’ only base hit.
U-High 3, Prairie Central 2 – At Normal, Dixie Hogan struck out three in going the distance for Prairie Central in a nonconference game at U-High on May 12. The Pioneers broke a 2-2 tie in the fifth inning and made it stand for the win.
Hogan had two hits and drove in a run for the Hawks while Lydia Kilgus had a hit and RBI. Jules Woodrey, Rylee Galloway and Kate Slagel each singled.
Baseball
Dwight 10, Peotone 7 – At Dwight, a six-run first inning propelled host Dwight to a nonconference baseball victory over Peotone on Thursday. Joey Starks got the win on the bump for the Trojans (24-10). He struck out 6. Cox fanned three in relief and Wyatt Statler closed it out.
Owen Dunlap set the tone with a home run to lead off the bottom of the first inning for DTHS. Tracer Brown had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run while Ryan Bumpous collected two hits and RBIs. Statler also had two hits and drove in a run while Luke Gallet doubled. Starks, Drew Anderson and Maddox Delong had one hit apiece.
Eureka 11, Pontiac 1 – At Pontiac, the host Tribe scored first but Eureka scored more often in posting a nonconference victory at The Ballpark at Williamson Field on May 14. Aden Brummel drove in Anderson Horning to give PTHS a 1-0 lead in the second inning. The Hornets stung the Tribe for 11 unanswered runs to win the game.
Talon Burgess had two hits to pace the Pontiac (6-14) offense. Horning, Brummel and Cayden Masching each singled once. Henry DeYoung took the loss and Horning closed it out. Each struck out one.
Lexington 8, Olympia 2 – At Lexington, the host Minutemen struck early and often in securing a nonconference victory over Olympia at Keller Park on May 14. Lexington scored a run in the first inning, added one in the second and then plated five markers in the third to take command. Jack Miller benefitted on the bump, getting the win with his six strikeouts in 5 1/3 innings.
Braeden Barber drove in the first run with a single and added a run-scoring double for his two hits and two RBIs. Preston Wiltz had two hits and drove in a run while Cooper Miller collected two hits. Blaine Friedmansky and Jaxson Goodrich had a hit and RBI each and Kayden Knight singled.
BCC 12, Dwight 0 – At Dwight, Bloomington (Central Catholic) erupted for two big innings, but only one run was needed as Dwight was unable to mount much offense in a nonconference game at DTHS on May 14.
Luke Gallet, Joey Starks, Evan Cox and Drew Anderson each singled for the Trojans. Gallet took the loss. Tracer Brown struck out two in relief.
Dwight 8, WFC 0 – At Woodland, after completing the May 12 contest, the Warriors and Trojans battled until late in the second game. Dwight led 1-0 before erupting for seven runs in the seventh inning to pull away.
Ryan Bumpous did heavy damage with a homer and double while driving in four runs for DTHS. Tracer Brown had a pair of hits and drove in two runs while Joey Starks had a hit and two RBIs. Evan Cox had a double and got the win on the bump with three strikeouts in three innings of relief. Wilkey (2 strikeouts) started and Wyatt Statler closed it out.
Sam Schmitz, Nolan Price and Reece Pelnarsh had one hit apiece for WFC.
Prairie Central 6, Pontiac 0 – At Fairbury, PTHS Henry DeYoung 1B, Aden Brummel 1B; Schlosser (L) 4K

Dwight 10, WFC 4 – At Dwight, it took two days, but it was worth it for the Trojans who claimed a TCC victory over WFC on May 12. The game was completed on May 13 at Woodland. Luke Gallet was catalyst for Dwight with a home run, two doubles and five runs driven in. He also scored twice and walked.
Owen Dunlap had a double, single and three RBIs, Drew Anderson had a double and single and Ryan Bumpous chalked up a pair of singles. Evan Cox had a two-base hit and Tracer Brown singled. Joey Starks fanned three as the starter while Brown and Jake Wilkey each struck out four in relief.
Nolan Price had two hits, including a double, and drove in a run for the Warriors. Sam Schmitz also had a double and RBI.
