Ennis Rakestraw injury update: Lions CB will miss time with shoulder injury

Some unfortunate news on the Lions injury front. Second-year CB Ennis Rakestraw is set to miss some time with his latest injury, a shoulder issue suffered in Sunday's practice.

Rakestraw went down very early in Sunday morning's practice with a shoulder injury that kept No. 9 on the ground for several minutes flat on his back. Rakestraw was previously battling through a painful chest contusion suffered on the first day of training camp. That injury had been limiting Rakestraw throughout camp and was obviously inhibiting his play in the preseason opener against the Chargers.

Head coach Dan Campbell updated the status before practice on Monday night, noting that the team will know more "in due time". It was not an optimistic tone from Campbell. He added,

"You hate it for the kid, you hate it. It's not his fault, just one of those tough deals.

The new injury is a serious setback for Rakestraw, who was in competition for the No. 3 outside CB role against veteran Rock Ya-Sin and others. Rakestraw missed time during his rookie season with recovery from core muscle surgery and a subsequent hamstring issue that limited him to eight games.
