Erik Bakich on Clemson playing a complete game in win over Charlotte
Clemson wasted little time asserting itself on Tuesday, jumping out to an early lead and never easing up in an 11-1 run-rule victory over Charlotte at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
“That is a good victory. I thought we played well in all three phases,” Clemson head coach Erik Bakich said. “That is a good hitting club. They have threats in their lineup up and down. We threw a lot of different arms tonight, and, outside of that home run, we were able to minimize the offensive opportunities over there.”
The 15th-ranked Tigers improved to 4-0 on the season, using a balanced offensive effort and steady pitching to control the game from start to finish. Clemson collected eight hits in the seven-inning contest, with three of those leaving the ballpark.
Jacob Jarrell, Tryston McCladdie and Nate Savoie each went deep, providing plenty of breathing room for the Tigers. Jarrell’s two-out home run in the bottom of the first inning punctuated a big opening frame and helped Clemson race out to a 5-0 advantage. The early surge set the tone and forced Charlotte to play from behind the rest of the night.
McCladdie added to the margin with a two-run blast to left field that also came with two outs, pushing the lead to 8-0 and further quieting any potential momentum from the 49ers.

Savoie delivered Clemson’s final run with a solo homer to lead off the sixth inning, extending the advantage and sealing the run-rule outcome.
With contributions throughout the lineup and multiple arms handling the workload on the mound, Clemson continued to show depth and consistency in the early portion of the season, building confidence as it moves forward.
