ESPN analyst says free-agent guard is 'best fit' for Chargers
The Chargers have been named the best fit for free agent guard David Edwards by ESPN's Matt Bowen.
The top 50 NFL free agents available this offseason, and Bowen chose the best fit for all players on the list based on team needs, scheme, and potential future production.
Bowen believes Edwards could serve as a solid replacement for Zion Johnson if he leaves for another team in free agency.
"If Zion Johnson leaves L.A., Edwards could replace him. Edwards has played his best football as a pro over his past two seasons with the Bills. He has excellent movement traits at 6-foot-6 and 308 pounds, and his 95% pass block win rate in 2025 ranked 12th among 65 qualifying guards. That's a positive for a Chargers team that allowed 60 sacks, tied for the second most in the league," Bowen writes.
Edwards posted a 71.4 overall PFF grade last season and played 1,035 offensive snaps for the Bills in 2025. He recorded a 95% pass block win rate, which ranked 12th among all NFL guards. For a Chargers offensive line that surrendered the second-most sacks in 2025, Edwards would provide a boost.
The good news for the Bolts is that the organization has the ammo to make a big move in free agency, with $82 million in projected cap space. Edwards is projected to command a three-year, $60 million contract in 2026.
