Ex-Arizona State football star Cam Skattebo wins NFL Network award for 'Angry Run'

Cam Skattebo wins again.

Having worked his way back from a nagging hamstring injury, the former Arizona State star running back crashed the NFL in his regular-season debut for the New York Giants and won NFL Network's Week 1 Angry Runs award, presented by the network's Kyle Brandt.

In Washington to play the Commanders on Sunday, Sept. 7, Skattebo put one play on film that earned him the honor.

Brandt asked Skattebo whether the rookie fourth-round pick expected this to happen on his first touch.

"Not the first one," Skattebo said, "but I knew it was going to happen."

Brandt then asked Skattebo to open the box with the Angry Runs trophy/scepter, which Skattebo wielded.

Brandt: "How's it feel?"

Skattebo: "Sick. I'll have a couple more."

Skattebo had missed much of training camp and the team’s first two preseason games until returning for New York’s preseason finale against the New England Patriots.

Against the Commanders in Week 1, he showed the nation what Arizona State fans have known for a while: It's going to take more than one guy to bring him down.

Skattebo collided — successfully, for the most part — with three Washington Commanders defenders the first time he handled the ball.

Lined up in a wide receiver position near the right sideline with the ball spotted at the New York 31, he took a quick pass from Russell Wilson then bounced off two tacklers before driving into a third Washington defender, who brought him down after a short gain.

The Commanders defeated the Giants, 21-6, though, and Skattebo's catch and run was his highlight. He carried the ball twice, for minus-3 yards and caught one more pass on the day, giving him 12 yards receiving total on the two receptions.
