Ex-Patriots DB calls out Tony Dungy on live TV for Bill Belichick snub
Former New England Patriots two-time Super Bowl champion Rodney Harrison didn't waste an opportunity to confront Pro Football Hall of Fame coach Tony Dungy on live television for the Hall of Fame committee snubbing Bill Belichick from the 2026 class.
Belichick, a former six-time Super Bowl champion, was expected to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer in his first year of eligibility. But despite being the most accomplished head coach in NFL history, the former longtime Patriots coach didn't receive enough votes to gain entry.
"What I will say coach is any list that doesn't include Bill Belichick at the top is absolutely wrong," Harrison told Dungy, a Hall of Fame voter, on NBC Sports. "Out of those players that we mentioned, they're great players. I played with Drew Brees. I played with Adam Vinatieri. But there's nobody more deserving to be in that Hall of Fame than Coach Belichick.
"I've seen his greatness. I've seen him design defenses to stop your offense [pointing at Dungy]. You just look at the players that he's impacted. He's been unbelievable. And when I look all throughout the Hall of Fame and even a guy like Tom Brady, Tom Brady wouldn't be Tom Brady without Bill Belichick. That's the disappointing part of it coach, and you guys got it wrong."
Dungy refused to reveal his vote during the segment when flat-out asked if he voted for Belichick to be in the Hall of Fame. Instead, he pointed to the system itself as the main reason why arguably the greatest coach in NFL history was left out in the cold.
"I feel your passion, and I'm with you," said Dungy. "This is about more than Bill Belichick because in the last two years, since the rule has been changed, we've had seven open slots. Seven people who deserved to be in that didn't get in because of this rule change. It has to change. We've been vocal about it as voters, and hopefully, it will change."
Tony Dungy said on NBC that he will not disclose how he voted for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but says he’s upset with the process and it’s not the voters’ fault Bill Belichick is not in.

Belichick and Patriots owner Robert Kraft were grouped with three senior players—Ken Anderson, Roger Craig and L.C. Greenwood. With the new rules, each voter could choose three of the five. The person who received the most votes, along with anyone getting 80 percent of the votes, would go into the Hall.
The Pro Football Hall of Fame is reportedly eyeing potential systemic changes after the blowback surrounding Belichick's failed entry.
