Expert score prediction: Nebraska vs. Houston Christian
Nebraska (2-0) concludes nonconference play when it welcomes Houston Christian (1-1) to Memorial Stadium. The Huskers are coming off a 68-0 victory over Akron, the program's highest-scoring win since 2012.
The Huskies fell in their recent outing, a 20-10 struggle with Eastern Kentucky. Turnovers plagued Houston Christian in its loss, as the team fumbled four times, resulting in a game-changing 13 points for the Colonels. This overshadowed the Huskies' defensive outing, which held Eastern Kentucky to just 79 passing yards and 94 rushing yards.
Houston Christian's offense also struggled, totaling just 253 yards. Quarterback Jake Weir led the way, tossing 22-of-45 for 211 yards and a touchdown. However, he also suffered four sacks and fumbled twice. The Huskies' ground game, meanwhile, only produced 42 yards off 32 carries.
All of this against a fellow FCS team does not give Houston Christian much chance against Nebraska. Though Akron did find a few small victories in the first half, the Huskers blew the door open in the second half to get the 68-0 shutout.
This was in part due to head coach Matt Rhule's halftime speech, which showed he wasn't taking the Zips lightly. Rhule isn't underestimating the Huskies either, indicating that this game is going to be another big outing.
Nebraska commenced 14 drives against Akron, scoring nine touchdowns and one field goal. However, two of the Huskers' drives ended inside the five, both almost resulting in touchdowns. The other two drives ended both halves.
Nebraska, for sure, could exceed the Akron win by dominating Houston Christian under the near-90-degree heat. However, there's bound to be at least one or two mishaps with the Huskers.
Score Prediction: Nebraska 59, Houston Christian 6
