Fermin Lopez reveals what he did with his first Barcelona salary

Barcelona midfielder Fermin Lopez has opened up about his rise to professional football, offering a personal insight into when he realised he could make a living from the game.

Speaking in a candid chat with Miki Nunez, the Barcelona midfielder reflected on a defining moment in his career, one that came later than many might expect. 

During the interview, Nunez asked Fermin, who was accompanied by former Real Madrid midfielder Guti.

“Do you remember that moment on that day when you realised you were going to make a living from football?”

Responding to a direct question about that moment, Fermin pointed to his return from his loan spell from Linares and his integration into the first team setup.

“For me, it was quite recently, but it was when I was 19 and doing pre-season training with the first team, having just returned from my loan spell at Linares, and when pre-season ended I said: ‘This is for real’.”

The interview also featured insights from Guti, who shared a contrasting journey from his time at Real Madrid.

Unlike Fermin, Guti revealed that he did not initially focus on reaching the first team. Instead, he enjoyed football during his early years.

He stated that he came to terms with reality when he was offered a contract at the age of 18.

“That’s when I realised it could happen.”

Back to Fermin, the Barcelona midfielder revealed that he had already started earning during his youth career, marking the beginning of his financial independence through football.

Speaking about his first purchase as a professional, he kept it simple and relatable. “Exactly, an iPhone.”

In the same interview, Fermin also revealed his ambitions, stating that staying at Barcelona is his ultimate dream.
