Firefighters respond after fire breaks out at reported home of Heat coach Erik Spoelstra

A fire reportedly broke out at the home of Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra early Thursday morning. Firefighters responded to a report of a fire at 4:30 a.m., and arrived on the scene to discover two buildings engulfed in flames, according to Local 10 News.

The home reportedly belongs to Spoelstra, an assistant Heat coach at the scene told Local 10 News. That statement was still being confirmed by Local 10 News, though the channel obtained video of Spoelstra at the scene and pacing outside the house.

Due to the severity of the fire, firefighters on the scene reportedly upgraded the scene to a two-alarm fire.

“The call was upgraded to a second alarm for additional man power,” MDFR said in an email to Local 10 News. “Due to a partial collapse, units switched to a defensive attack, and are still working to extinguish the fire.”

Firefighters were able to successfully extinguish the fire before it spread to other homes.

Images of the home emerged on social media, showing it was completely destroyed by the fire.

Spoelstra and the Heat played in Denver on Wednesday night. The Heat flew back to Miami overnight, and did not land until 5:11 a.m., per ESPN. Spoelstra reportedly arrived at the home after firefighters were already on the scene.

No injuries were reported initially and the cause of the fire has not been determined at this time.
