Flathead depth shows early at Big Sky Triangular

MISSOULA — It wasn’t a day that screams fast times, but Flathead shook off the dust with impressive performances across the board on Tuesday at MCPS Stadium.

The Braves and Bravettes turned an early-season triangular with Missoula Big Sky and Seeley-Swan (girls only) into a steady step forward, stacking wins and personal bests.

The Bravettes were led by senior Bristol Lenz, who won the 200 meters in 27.04 and added a win in the 100 hurdles.

Flathead kept the points coming behind her. Sophomore Grace Gall won the high jump at 4-10, while Julia Kay matched that mark for second and added a personal-best 13.25 for runner-up in the 100. Freshman Anna Chivers chipped in with a second-place finish in the 300 hurdles and a third in the 200.

In the field, consistency carried the day. Junior Lily Parris was second in both the shot put and discus, Jillian Murdock took second in javelin, and Alice Dolezal added a runner-up finish in the triple jump.

Big Sky was led by junior Gabby Alec-Rebolledo, who won the 100, in a personal-best, and swept the long and triple jumps, while Nya Myers took the 300 hurdles. Seeley-Swan added a presence with Sophia Arteaga finishing second in the 400.

On the boys side, Flathead’s distance group set the tone.

Junior Christopher Holland doubled up with wins in the 800 and 1,600, both in personal-best times, while the 3,200 turned into a Braves sweep at the top as Andrew Stfinger won in 10:02.96 and Brodyn DeShaw and Colet Gress followed close behind.

Braves’ Sirreal Rice posted a personal best in the 100 with a 11.36 time that landed in second place and Nate Moy won the high jump at 5-10.

Big Sky countered with sprint wins from Blake Williams and a strong hurdles performance from Kellan Krueger, but Flathead’s depth kept the meet tight throughout.
