Florida basketball breaks into NET rankings top 10 after beating TAMU
Florida basketball (17-6, 8-2) moved into the top 10 on the NET rankings following a 19-point win over the Texas A&M Aggies on Saturday night, the Gators' third-straight blowout win against an SEC team.
Florida moved ahead of Michigan State, Nebraska and Purdue since the last update, marking the Orange and Blue's first appearance in the top 10 of the 2025-26 season. While several teams have a better overall record — UF is the only team in the top 16 with six losses — Florida's resume features the third-most Quadrant 1 and Quadrant 2 games in college basketball (17).
While Washington also has 17 Q1/Q2 matchups on record, the Huskies are just 5-12 in such games. The Gators sit at an impressive 11-6 against quality opponents, with three losses coming against programs in the top seven. Although the NET rankings are directly correlated to NCAA Tournament seeding, the committee does use them as a resource when making the bracket each March.
Florida has several chances to make the case for a No. 2 seed, or better, with four more Q1 opportunities coming up. The Gators travel to No. 35 Georgia on Wednesday and then head back home for a matchup with No. 28 Kentucky, both of which are Quadrant1 games as of the current rankings.
Breaking down Florida’s wins by Quadrant
Before going into Florida’s resume, it’s important to understand how the quadrants are divided. Where a game is played has as much to do with the quadrant as the quality of the opponent. As the rankings change, so does the quality of the wins.
- Quadrant 1: Home 1-30, Neutral 1-50, Away 1-75
- Quadrant 2: Home 31-75, Neutral 51-100, Away 76-135
- Quadrant 3: Home 76-160, Neutral 101-200, Away 135-240
- Quadrant 4: Home 161-353, Neutral 201-353, Away 241-353
Quadrant 1 Games
Florida is 6-4 in Quadrant 1 games.
Non-conference losses came against No. 1 Arizona, No. 3 Duke and No. 7 UConn. All three are considered very good losses, but they do give Florida a narrow path to a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. The Gators' lone non-conference Q1 win came against No. 38 Miami at a neutral site (Jacksonville). The Hurricanes are firmly in Quadrant 1.
Several of Florida's SEC games were against Q1 opponents. The Missouri (No. 63) loss on the road remains in Quadrant 1, which is good for the Gators, but Auburn recently fell out of the top 30, making it a Quadrant 2 loss. The wins came against No. 14 Vanderbilt, No. 21 Tennessee, and No. 23 Alabama, No. 40 Texas A&M and No. 75 Oklahoma. The Sooners are on the borderline between Q1 and Q2, which could affect Florida's resume moving forward.
Quadrant 2 Games
In Quadrant 2 games, Florida is 5-2, with wins over No. 35 Georgia, No. 58 LSU — both at home — and at No. 113 South Carolina during conference play. The other two Q2 wins came during the non-conference schedule against No. 78 Providence and No. 92 George Washington, both at a neutral site.
Florida's two Quadrant 2 losses came against No. 53 TCU, at a neutral site, and No. 31 Auburn. The Tigers are one spot away from reentering Quadrant 1 territory, however.
Quadrant 3 and 4 games
The only Quadrant 3 game Florida has played in so far was a home game against No. 95 Florida State. The Seminoles have trended down most of the season but recently climbed more than 40 spots in the NET. The Seminoles still need to get to No. 75 to reach Q2.
Florida went 5-0 against Q4 teams, beating No. 196 Colgate, No. 197 Merrimack, No. 232 Dartmouth, No. 338 North Florida and No. 352 Saint Francis by an average of 33.6 points.
