Former All-Rookie San Antonio Spurs Send Messages to Stephon Castle

On Tuesday, Stephon Castle won the 2024-25 NBA Rookie of the Year Award. He became the fourth player in San Antonio Spurs' history to win the award and the second Spur in two years, joining Victor Wembanyama.

While Castle didn't win unanimously like Wembanyama did, he was long the favorite to take home the Wilt Chamberlain Trophy and received 92 of the 100 possible first-place votes.

Zaccharie Risacher and Jaylen Wells both received a handful of first-place votes, and Zach Edey, Kel'el Ware, Matas Buzelis, and Jared McCain all got votes as well.

Castle was the only rookie to score at least 1,000 points this season. He led the rookie class in points and steals, and was in the top ten in rebounds and assists.

After the news came out that he won the trophy, Wembanyama took to social media to share a message with his teammate.

He wasn't the only San Antonio figure to share words with Castle, as Manu Ginobili, a franchise icon who finished fourth in ROTY voting in 2003, also had something to say.

Ginobili serves as a special advisor to the Spurs and is very hands-on at their training facility, prompting some fans to speculate and hope that he will take on a bigger role and be named the next head coach of the franchise.

With two Rookies of the Year in a row, the Spurs are hoping not to follow in the footsteps of the Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins-led Minnesota Timberwolves, who were the last team with two such winners.
