Former Notre Dame forward in transfer portal for second straight year

After his freshman year at Notre Dame, forward Carey Booth took off for the supposedly greener pastures of Illinois. It seemed to be a smart move for him at the time, leaving a rebuilding program for one just coming off an Elite Eight appearance. It didn't quite work out that way, so he's on the move again.

Less than a day after the Illini's season ended, a report broke that Booth is entering the transfer portal for the second straight year. After appearing in every game for the 2023-24 Irish and starting 19 of them, he came off the bench in 21 games this season and didn't play at all in the Big Ten Tournament or NCAA Tournament.

Booth's numbers took a significant dip from the season before. Most notably, his scoring average dipped from 6.4 to 1.2, and his rebounding average went from 4.3 to 1.0. Needless to say, he might have been better off staying in South Bend as opposed to leaving for Champaign:

Interestingly, this news comes less than a day after Tae Davis entered the transfer portal, so the Irish have an opening at forward. Might this signal a return for Booth? The cards appear to be falling into place.
