Former Patriots QB-WR duo reunite and destroy Rams defense

Former New England Patriots quarterback Mac Jones and wide receiver Kendrick Bourne reunited with the San Francisco 49ers and stunned the Los Angeles Rams on the road in a 26-23 overtime victory on Thursday night.

Jones, who was filling in for injured 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy, went 33-of-49 passing in the game for 342 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. Bourne was the leading receiver with 10 catches for 142 yards, averaging 14.2 yards per reception.

It was a stellar performance.

In many ways, it was reminiscent of the 2021 campaign, where both Jones and Bourne had career years. Jones recorded 3,801 passing yards, 22 touchdowns and 13 interceptions on the season. Bourne had 70 catches for 800 yards and five touchdowns on the year.

The Jones-Bourne connection was very strong for the Patriots when Josh McDaniels served as the offensive coordinator.

Now, they have an opportunity to work with another offensive guru in 49ers coach Kyle Shanahan.

The game probably felt bittersweet for some Patriots fans. On one hand, they got to see two past Patriots players succeed elsewhere, but there's also the fact that New England could have done more to develop both players and put them in a better position to succeed.

It didn't work out in New England, but so far, it has been working in San Francisco.
