Former Texas A&M forward shines in the DR with style and scoring
Basketball is beginning to ramp up with games tipping off at the end of October, and the Aggies are eager to see what their completely revamped roster looks like under head coach Bucky McMillan. However, one familiar face is making waves back in his home country: Andersson Garcia.
The former Aggie forward, known for his rebounding tenacity and defensive grit, has emerged as a premier two-way player in the Dominican Republic, where he was named DRNBL Rookie of the Year. While he wasn’t asked to be a primary scorer under Buzz Williams, Garcia has been consistently posting double-digit points.
For most basketball players, the ultimate goal is to reach the NBA. Garcia’s recent performances are starting to attract attention, potentially paving the way for a 10-day contract or a two-way deal. Still, there are numerous international leagues where he could carve out a successful career playing the game he loves.
All he needs to do is keep embracing his role as the “Dominican Dennis Rodman,” and the rest will fall into place.
