George Kittle denied 49ers contract dispute with a firm 4-word response
After a rough down year for the San Francisco 49ers last season, Kyle Shanahan's bunch is (understandably) looking for a major rebound to contention this fall. Such a rebound will likely require everyone in the 49ers' core to be on the same page and working as one.
The 49ers' internal culture, even above the talent, has to be so strong, after all.
However, according to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, San Francisco's perennial Pro Bowl tight end, George Kittle, is absent at the start of the 49ers' organized team activities (OTAs) this spring because he is involved in a contract dispute, with the "two sides remaining far apart." (Note: Brock Purdy is present as he awaits a likely massive extension.)
Not that the 31-year-old Kittle wouldn't deserve some kind of extra earned financial security and stability, but this would definitely throw a wrench into that whole culture idea.
Brock Purdy's appearance at 49ers OTAs is a positive sign as extension talks continue between San Francisco and its QB.
George Kittle's absence is also contract related, sources say.

Interestingly enough, Kittle replied to Russini and quickly downplayed the notion that his absence from 49ers practice was in any way related to contract issues:

Well, if Kittle is saying it, I'd probably be more inclined to believe him, considering, you know, it's his career.
Nonetheless, Kittle will be an unrestricted free agent come 2026. And he has been a dynamic, multifaceted tight end who blocks well and is an impeccable pass target for years now. If he did really want a new contract as he enters his 30s in earnest, he probably deserves it. And if the 49ers are serious about maintaining their Super Bowl window, they should probably take care of him soon.
