High School Playoff Roundup: Here are the soccer and volleyball teams who advanced

⚽GIRLS SOCCER - Division IV Semifinals

REHOBOTH, MA – There was no need for the Lincoln School girls soccer team to be nervous for its Division IV semifinal game against Blackstone Valley Prep, but that didn’t stop the butterflies from showing up.

It also didn’t take long for them to calm down either.

Once Sadie Schiller scored early in the first half, all was well and good for the Lynx – and then things got better. Elie Brody followed with a goal two minutes later and three goals in the first four made the result obvious – as if the defense’s play didn’t – as they rolled to a 7-0 win over the Pride.

“I was definitely stressing out a little bit this weekend,” Brody said. “I knew our team was great, we had great pieces and I’m glad we got this done and are on to the next one.”

Lincoln School went 16-1-1 in the regular season – which included a 5-0 win over BVP – surrendered four goals throughout the fall. That alone should have given the Lynx reason to relax for Wednesday’s semifinal.

But the team didn’t want to. Lincoln School knew Blackstone Valley Prep wasn’t going to hand over the game, so the Lynx took care of things early.

The offense took over immediately and Schiller diced the Pride defense before popping a shot home 7:46 into the game. Lincoln School remained on the attack and earned a corner kick, where Susannah Duggan blasted the ball into the box. It found the foot – or at least lower half – of Brody, a one-timer into the upper right for a 2-0 lead before 10 minutes had passed in the game.

“I love corners, but I’ve never scored off my shin,” Brody said. “I’m just trying to get my body on the ball and it ended up being my shin and it went top corner.”

Lincoln School’s stellar play in the midfield and on defense thwarted any BVP comeback attempt. The ball remained in the offensive zone for the majority of the first half, which ended with the Lynx up 2-0.

The lead changed quickly after halftime. Schiller scored her second goal 21 seconds into the second half, Brody added her second goal 2:33 later and Duggan got involved with a goal 5:11 into the half. Brody picked up her hat trick with 26:25 left to play and Maggie McDonald – who plays defense – got a chance to get a tally, knocking one in the net with 6:26 left to put a tidy bow on the win.

“We almost play like we’re down,” Brody said. “You never know. If they get one goal you never know what can happen and we just play as hard as we can no matter what the score is.”

The win sends Lincoln School to its second championship game in program history after joining the RIIL in 2017. The Lynx will face a familiar foe in Tiverton, the team that eliminated them from the postseason last fall and beat them, 3-0, on Oct. 23.

“It’s 100 percent just about our team and how we play,” Schiller said. “We’ve had such amazing team chemistry, I love playing with all my girls. Win or not, in the championship I’m happy I’m going into it with this team and it doesn’t matter who we’re having as long as we play our best game.”
