Highlights from Liam Coen, James Gladstone's pre-draft press conference

Jacksonville Jaguars' GM James Gladstone and head coach Liam Coen met with the media for their pre-draft press conference.

In case you missed it, here are the highlights from the interview.

- Gladstone and Coen were asked about going through this pre-draft process for the first time in their respective roles. Gladstone said he is still rooted in the same processes that he's been a part of previously, and it's still football at the end of the day.

- Gladstone reiterates the importance of physical and mental toughness as this roster continues to be built out.

- Gladstone mentions that the Jaguars aren't having official 30 pre-draft visits to help keep a bit of a competitive advantage in regard to what direction they could be going. He also mentioned that sourced information from those who know the prospects is going to be more accurate than what the Jaguars can learn from just one meeting.

- "We'll have as many conversations as people are willing to engage on," said Gladstone about making trades during the draft.

- Gladstone mentions going through exercises over the last five weeks where they replicate the decision-making process that goes into making a selection and feeling what it's like to submit a pick to know whether it was the right decision or not.

- Gladstone's current schedule includes meeting with scouts in the morning and the coaching staff in the afternoons, and then they will do mock drafts next week. The purpose of the mocks, says Gladstone, is more so operationally to make sure all of the tech is functioning.

- "There's some really good football players," said Coen about the wide receiver position in this year's draft. He adds that there may not be the same high-level talent as we've seen in past years, but there are players later on who he believes could help.

- Coen says that at the defensive end position, being able to set the edge against the run and having different pass rush plans are two qualities they are looking for.

- Coen noted the importance of evaluating a player's special teams abilities when looking at draft prospects.

- Gladstone says that data tracking with on-field speeds are going to weigh more heavily for the Jaguars in evaluating prospects than a 40 time will.

- The offense is going to run through Brian Thomas, but Coen noted the importance of spreading the ball around to keep defenses off-balanced, which can then take some of the spotlight off of Thomas.

- Gladstone mentioned sourced information, film, and some in-house operations that the Jaguars use to evaluate whether a prospect meets that intangibly rich threshold.
