Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark still can't stand her high school rival
Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark was known as one of the best players and better trash talkers in the WNBA from pretty much the minute she entered the league. That talking trash is nothing new — and neither is holding grudges (nor is the talent).
Ahead of the season opener against the Chicago Sky and Angel Reese, Clark talked about loving rivalries in sports with a story that extended back to her high school days.
"I still hate our rival high school," she said. "Sorry, I'm sure there's a lot of people from Valley High School that love me and support me now, I appreciate that and I appreciate you guys, but I wasn't your biggest fan.
She then added with a laugh: "I was taught to, growing up, if we were driving by the high school, to hold my breath because I couldn't breathe that air."

Caitlin on sports rivalries
“I grew up loving rivalries…I still hate our rival…sorry I know there’s a lot of people from Valley high school that love me and support me now…I was taught growing up if we were driving by to hold my breath because I couldn’t breathe that air.” pic.twitter.com/sLFrKBx5QN— correlation (@nosyone4) May 17, 2025
"Rivalry is great for sport," she said.
From Iowa vs. Iowa State to Valley High vs. Dowling Catholic to now, Caitlin Clark vs. seemingly the entire WNBA, she has had her fair share throughout her young career.
It's not going to stop any time soon.
