Individual matches at Jasper get underway

JASPER – The IHSAA individual singles and doubles got underway on Tuesday at the Yarborough Tennis Complex in Jasper, although the team matches with Barr-Reeve, Jasper Sullivan and Lincoln were all pushed back to Wednesday.

In Washington’s two matches, Josh Meredith lost to Northeast Dubois' Carson Beck, 3-6,4-6. The doubles team of Hayden Tomey and Brody Armes lost to Vincennes Rivet’s Miles Holka and Max Weiss, 3-6,0-6.

“It’s a tough way to end the season, but I couldn’t be prouder of this group. They battled all year, showed class in every match, and grew not just as players but as people. Losing in sectionals hurts, but these kids have a lot to be proud of,” said WHS coach Jason Johnston.

North Daviess Cougar’s No. 1 Coby Loheider took on Bloomfield’s Will Dowden Tuesday as well. Loheider’s steady play took down Dowden 6-4, 6-4.

Schulte said, “Loheider played well tonight. He was patient with his game. Coby was selective when he wanted to be aggressive and come into the net which forced Dowden into errors.”

Loheider takes on another tough tasked against NE Dubois’s hard hitter Carson Beck in his next match.

The Barr-Reeve match will also be on Wednesday.
