Insider says Steelers-Brian Flores reunion unlikely

Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores, a former coach of the Pittsburgh Steelers, has an opportunity to reunite with the Steel City brand of football following Mike Tomlin’s decision to step down as head coach — but one insider questioned how realistic that might be.

According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, a reunion between the Steelers and Flores isn’t as likely as some would like to believe.

“I don’t know. I don’t think so. I lean towards no,” Russini said about Pittsburgh potentially hiring Flores. “But I could also see Brian Flores going in there and just pointing to what he’s been able to do with that Vikings defense.”

While Russini is simply speculating, Flores is facing stiff competition for the vacancy, such as Mike McCarthy, a Pittsburgh native who has led some great offenses during his 18 years of head coach experience.

While Russini cast doubt on a possible reunion, Flores recently completed an in-person interview with the Steelers and appears to have fan support behind him.
