Isaiah Stewart injury update: Detroit Pistons C exits Game 1, then Knicks inflict pain

The status of the Detroit Pistons' top rim protector is up in the air going into Game 2.

Isaiah Stewart exited the Pistons' 123-112 loss to the New York Knicks on Saturday in the fourth quarter with 9:06 remaining in the final period. He didn't carry an injury designation entering the game, but missed the final two games of the regular season with right knee inflammation.

Stewart was visibly laboring all night, and finally motioned for the coaching staff to sub him out as the Pistons had an eight-point lead. A 21-0 Knicks run followed and the Pistons were outscored 40-21 in the final period.

J.B. Bickerstaff said "we'll see" after the game when asked about his status going into Monday.

"It’s tough," Bickerstaff said. "He means so much to us and there’s so many things that he can do. At some point my choice was to protect him and I just thought that was the right decision."

In 19 minutes, Stewart finished with two points, five rebounds and two blocks.

The Pistons had a clean bill of health entering playoffs. Jaden Ivey was the only player listed on the injury report, as he continues rehab after undergoing surgery to repair a broken left fibula in early January.

New York Knicks center Karl-Anthony Towns posts up on Detroit Pistons center Isaiah Stewart in Game 1 of the first round of the NBA playoffs at Madison Square Garden, Saturday, April 19, 2025.
