Jaguars DT Arik Armstead shares initial impression of Travis Hunter after the offseason

Like so many others, Jacksonville Jaguars' defensive tackle Arik Armstead has come away impressed with what he's seen from second overall pick Travis Hunter during offseason programs.

On a recent appearance on 'First Things First,' Armstead shared his initial impressions of Hunter and what he's seen from him up to this point.

"It does seem impossible until you're around Travis," said Armstead of Hunter playing both ways. "I think one of the most impressive things about him is it's hot in Jacksonville, like we sweating, and this dude doesn't break a sweat. You look at him, he's smooth. He's very elastic. Everything just comes natural to him. Just a natural-born athlete."

While Chiefs' tight end Travis Kelce said recently that opponents should constantly attack Hunter downfield with vertical routes to wear him out, Armstead is the latest member of the Jaguars to be impressed with Hunter's conditioning. Liam Coen and James Gladstone have also mentioned this as well.

Since joining the Jaguars, Hunter has been involved in both the offensive and defensive meetings as he learns the playbooks and terminologies of each system.

On the practice field, he has spent more time at wide receiver, which has been the plan from the jump. The reason for this, as Gladstone described, is that the Jaguars view cornerback as Hunter's more natural position, so they wanted to prioritize wide receiver reps early on.

For just about all of OTAs and minicamp, Hunter practices at either wide receiver or cornerback on a given day. The next step in his progression will be routinely practicing on both sides of the ball during the same practice. We will start to see this once training camp begins.

'When you look at playing both sides of the football, his schedule is crazy," Armstead added. "It's like two days he's on offense, and then he comes over, and then he pops up in our defensive meetings, and then he's out there with our color jersey on and first day he's playing defense makes a crazy interception and then goes on offense scoring touchdowns.

"So I'm really excited to have him as a teammate, and he brings a lot to Jacksonville, not just who he is as a player but who he is as a person. He's bringing a lot of excitement to the city, and people are going to want to watch him play."
