Jamestown Eagles falls to AHP Rustlers, Calgary Cubs

Jun. 14—LETHBRIDGE, Canada — The Jamestown Post 14 Eagles saw their comeback attempt fall just short in an 8-7 loss to the AHP Rustlers on Saturday, June 14, at the Lethbridge Elks' Spitz Field.

The Rustlers (6-25) scored two runs in the top of the first to go up 2-0 before they added three more in the second to take a 5-0 lead. The Eagles responded with one in the second to make it 5-1 before another Rustlers run pushed their lead out to 6-1 in the top of the fourth.

The Eagles' (5-8) biggest inning of the day came in the bottom of the fourth when Bennett Goehner scored on an error to make it 6-2 before two more runs came home to trim the deficit to 6-4. The score stayed that way until the seventh when the Rustlers appeared to put the game out of reach with a two run frame to go up 8-4 but the Eagles had other ideas with a Kale Verke single scoring tow runs to bring it to within two runs at 8-6 and then a single from Goehner getting the score to within one. However, a groundout ended the game.

The Eagles (5-9) had a big inning in the second with six runs on six hits and one walk to go up 6-0. The Cubs (5-0) responded with four runs in the bottom of the second to bring it to within two runs and 6-4. The Eagles punched right back in the third with a run scoring single to make it 7-4 but the Cubs added two in the frame to make it 7-6.

The Eagles continued to try to get some momentum in the fourth with a run but the Cubs were able to get the heaviest punch in the fifth with a four run frame to go up 10-8 before they added three more in the sixth to get the five run win.

The Eagles are back in action on Sunday, June 15, with the time and opponent still to be determined.
