Jets QB Justin Fields projected to rush for a ton of yards in 2025

New York Jets offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand will attempt to tap into Justin Fields' dual-threat ability this season. The athletic quarterback signed a two-year, $40 million contract with the franchise in free agency. Fields will be the Jets' starter for the foreseeable future, and that means investing in what he does best by building an offense around his strengths.

Fields' ability to scramble and create explosive gains with his legs places stress on opposing defenses. Fields finished 14th among quarterbacks in rushing yards last season (289) despite only making six starts. In 2023, his last full-time campaign as a starter, he was second, behind just Lamar Jackson.

Pro Football Focus recently hand-picked one prop they love for every AFC team. For the Jets, that means placing faith in Fields' ability to rush for over 625.5 yards this season.

"In the weeks since we evaluated rushing props to target for the 2025 season, oddsmakers have noticed their mistake in Fields' line and have adjusted it with a 75-yard increase," Mason Cameron wrote. "However, that’s still well below his 738-yard projection. As one of the most electric runners at the quarterback position, Fields is well equipped to show his flashes in New York."

Cameron's logic checks out. In Fields' previous two seasons as a full-time starter, he easily cleared 625 rushing yards, including a historic 1,143 as a sophomore in 2022. Fields should have a long leash as the Jets' starter in 2025, and expect the Jets to tap into his scrambling ability.
