Kellen Moore offers scant details on injuries from first Saints preseason game

Some things you anticipate; injuries in the first full-contact game of the year are one of them. Several New Orleans Saints players exited Sunday's loss to the Los Angeles Chargers with injuries, and first-year head coach Kellen Moore didn't shy away from that. But he did offer scant details after the game.

"On the medical side Will Clapp, Trevor Penning obviously came out of the game. We'll see how those guys go. Bub (Means) came out, and then Mason Pline there. We'll see how those guys go, we'll get a report there," Moore told reporters on Sunday evening.

Los Angeles Rams coach Sean McVay told reporters on Sunday that he was talking with the Saints about scheduling joint practices this week; when Moore was asked about that, he said team health would play a big part in whether they choose to accept the Rams' offer.

When asked specifically about the cart coming out for Penning, Moore made it clear that was a question he'd answer another day: "We'll just see how it goes. Obviously some guys will go through testing, get some clarity as we go."

It's a tough break. Clapp was the go-to backup for Erik McCoy at center, but all eyes were on Penning, who had taken the lion's share of starting reps at left guard. He was seen walking around easily enough before riding the cart to the locker room, so that may have been more of a convenience decision than an indication of severity. But we'll have to wait and see. Pline, the recently-signed tight end, seemed to have suffered the most serious injury of the group. Stay tuned.
