The New York Knicks squeaked by the Golden State Warriors on Sunday night, 110-107. It's New York's third straight win as they improved to 44-25 on the season.
It's not all sunshine and rainbows, though. The Warriors were without eight players heading into the game, including Steph Curry, Draymond Green, Kristaps Porzingis, and Al Horford, arguably Golden State's four best players, and that's not even including Jimmy Butler, who's out for the season with a knee injury.
Despite the Warriors digging deep into their bench, it took the Knicks erasing a 21-point deficit to rally and beat short-handed Golden State. For a team like New York with championship aspirations, it's almost embarrassing.
Mike Brown is not pleased with the Knicks continuous slow starts
After the game, Knicks head coach Mike Brown wasn't ready to talk about a three-game winning streak, or even a win on national television. Instead, he emphasized the fact that New York may need to make some changes, considering how poorly they've started games as of late.
"Mike Brown spent several minutes of his postgame press conference talking about team needing to start games with more focus and physicality. Said he’s not at a point now where’d he is going to change lineup but he won’t hesitate to do so if he feels need to," wrote SNY's Ian Begley in a post on X.
Threatening a change in the lineup is a change of pace for the usually level-headed Brown. He hasn't tinkered with it much all season, despite questions about the fit of his five starters.
But it's not without reason. The Knicks fell behind early against the Warriors' backups, trailing 35-21 at the end of the first quarter. Maybe the starters need a bit of a threat from their head coach.
We'll see how the locker room reacts to his words on Tuesday night, when the Knicks take on the Indiana Pacers at Madison Square Garden.
