Lane Kiffin updates injury status of transfer QB Sam Leavitt
LSU football's spring practice is in full swing, but the Tigers' QB1 isn't at full strength. Arizona State transfer Sam Leavitt remains limited as he continues his recovery from an injury that cut his 2025 season short. Leavitt took another step in the right direction this week, getting the screws removed from his foot. Leavitt shared a picture of his foot wrapped on Instagram, initially causing concern among Tiger fans, but all is well.
On Tuesday, LSU head coach Lane Kiffin provided a further update.
"This is the timeline we expected and had the screwer removed yesterday and everything went well. You know, it was something that going into it, we were going to know that it was going to be unfortunate. He was going to miss spring, a lot of it. But that was going to allow the other guys opportunities," Kiffin said.
Despite the missed time, Kiffin isn't too concerned. The LSU head coach says it's easier to play QB now than it used to be. Kiffin pointed to Trinidad Chambliss at Ole Miss, who didn't arrive in Oxford until the Summer and went on to excel in Kiffin's offense in 2025.

LSU is Leavitt's third school after he began his career at Michigan State before transferring to Arizona State. He led the Sun Devils to a College Football Playoff appearance in 2024.
Leavitt wasn't the only transfer portal QB to sign with LSU. The Tigers also landed USC transfer Husan Longstreet and Landen Clark from Elon.
