Las Vegas Raiders DE Maxx Crosby continues to command the Kansas City Chiefs' attention
The Kansas City Chiefs have faced numerous game-wrecking players over the years, and one of the most consistent has been Las Vegas Raiders pass rusher Maxx Crosby.
"He's (Maxx Crosby) a heck of a competitor, and he's 100 miles an hour every play. I'm sure he's that way in practice (chuckles). He just goes and goes," said Reid during his weekly press conference, "He and Patrick (Mahomes), I think, are friends actually, and they just compete against each other. And that's the beauty of this sport, you have an opportunity to do that. He'll be there for sure."
Crosby and Mahomes have a well-documented history of battling in these rivalry games, producing classic footage. The two-time league MVP has immense respect for Crosby in these meetings.
"It's a ton of respect," said Mahomes to reporters earlier in the week, "when I talk to him (Maxx Crosby) outside of football, it's like we're friends and you wouldn't even see what happens on the football field, but he's the type of competitor like me. When you get on that football field, it's whatever it takes to win, and you're going to leave everything on the football field, and I have a ton of respect for that. Those are the guys that you want on your team because they play with that mentality, and he's trying to do that and build that culture there. I know when we step across that line and you get on that football field, it's going to take your best effort to find a way to go against that guy."
Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy is consistently mindful of Crosby's whereabouts on the field for Sunday's game, as he told reporters on Thursday.
"You have to. In the offseason the Kelce brothers (Travis and Jason Kelce) they did that little deal – that interview with me and they asked me, "who is one of the most important or toughest defensive players that you go against?", and Maxx Crosby is right there." said Nagy, "Anytime – you're talking about a ton of players and somebody that does his – he goes 100% of the time all the time. He's relentless. He's a game changer; he can affect the game. So just a ton of respect. You got to know where he's at on every play."
Crosby enters Week 7 with 25 total tackles and four sacks as the Raiders seek to emerge from last place in the AFC West.
