Late game rally leads to Nebraska softball's 6-2 defeat to Indiana in Friday night battle
The No. 18 Nebraska softball team (32-11, 11-4) welcomed in Indiana (29-12, 8-7) Friday night for a two-game series. The Huskers fell to the Hoosiers in the opening game, letting a 2-1 lead turn into a 6-2 defeat.
Indiana struck first, going up 1-0 in the third off an RBI single. Nebraska took the lead in the fourth following an Emmerson Cope two-run home run.
The Hoosiers took off in the sixth, scoring four runs from an RBI single and a three-run RBI double. Indiana added one more run in the seventh after hitting a sacrificial fly.
The Hoosiers finished with nine hits to the Huskers’ four. Nebraska struggled to get the bat's going, never breaking through Indiana's defense.
Cope, Jordyn Bahl, Samantha Bland and Hannah Camenzind drove in one hit, with Cope's home run being the Huskers' only big highlight.
Bahl (18-5) also threw for 6.0 innings on the day, striking out four but allowing seven hits and five runs. H. Camenzind pitched in the seventh and allowed two hits and one run.
Nebraska concludes the series with the Hoosiers on Saturday afternoon. The first pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. CT on B1G+ and Nebraska Public Media.
