The 41-year-old confirmed last week Fernandez would be suspended for the next two games for comments he made over the international break.

The World Cup winner sat out last weekend’s 7-0 win over Port Vale in the FA Cup, and will serve the final game of his ban against Manchester City on Sunday.

Liam Rosenior on Enzo Fernandez situation

It’s been confirmed Fernandez has apologised to Rosenior, his team-mates and the club for his comments, but he still won’t be available for Sunday’s game.

There were reports suggesting the players had asked Rosenior to overturn the ban, but that was denied by the former Strasbourg boss.

The way Chelsea have dealt with the situation has divided opinion, with former Blue Joe Cole describing it as a “mess.”

Fernandez is expected to be available for next weekend’s game against Manchester United, but Rosenior suggested there were still “hurdles” he needed to overcome, and when questioned on that he gave a cryptic answer.

Kieran Gill on X.com reported:

Q: What are these “hurdles” you mentioned?

A: “There are still things that need to be cleared before I make a clear statement on the situation.”

Q: Will these “hurdles” prevent him from returning to play vs Man Utd next weekend?

A: “Not in this moment.”
