Lions Fantasy Start/Sit Week 7: Amon-Ra St. Brown primed for rebound vs. Buccaneers
The Detroit Lions are facing another primetime matchup in Week 7 against one of the league's best so far in 2025.
Despite several injuries in their own right, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are bringing a 5-1 record into Ford Field on Monday night, the third consecutive season the Lions and Bucs have met in the regular season. For fantasy football managers, they'll be looking for bounce-back games from several Lions who had below-average performances in Week 6.
Superstar wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown didn't have a dud last week, catching nine of 10 targets, but only mustered 45 yards for his trouble. However, St. Brown and the Buccaneers have a history:
- 2024 (Week 2): 11 catches, 119 yards, 22.9 fantasy points
- 2023 (Playoffs): 8 catches, 77 yards, TD, 21.7 fantasy points
- 2023 (Week 6): 12 catches, 124 rec yards, TD, 30.4 fantasy points
St. Brown will remain a top-tier WR1 option in what should be another battle for this Lions offense. Some of his teammates however feel like less of a guarantee for Week 7.
Detroit Lions Start/Sit Week 7 vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Start: Jahmyr Gibbs
This is the first time this season that the decision to trust Jahmyr Gibbs in fantasy has even come into question after 7-5-point performance last week against the Chiefs. Gibbs had 17 carries but only mustered 65 yards and was hardly involved in the passing game.
Head coach Dan Campbell also made it known after the loss to the Chiefs that he wanted to "balance out the backfield," alluding to more involvement from David Montgomery. Gibbs has 22 more carries and 15 more catches than Montgomery through six weeks.
Despite Campbell's comments and a tough game last week, Gibbs remains a must-start. The Lions are a run-first team, the Buccaneers are a mid-tier defense when it comes to giving up fantasy points to running backs, and Gibbs is too talented a player not to continue to be treated as an RB1.
Start: Jared Goff
Quarterback Jared Goff had his 33-point performance in Week 2 and has largely cooled off since then. However, he's leading the NFL in completion percentage and going up against a Tampa Bay defense that ranks 25th in fantasy for points given up to quarterbacks.
Goff, even if he's only putting up sub-20-point totals, will still be a worthwhile start while he's playing as efficiently as he is with the weapons around him.
Start: David Montgomery
David Montgomery probably won't throw a touchdown pass this week, but Dan Campbell's desire to balance the backfield should signal an uptick in opportunities for his RB2.
Montgomery had a couple of catch-and-run plays against the Chiefs last week that should remind fantasy managers that Jahmyr Gibbs isn't the only Lions RB with pass game upside. The Buccaneers rank 24th in fantasy points given up to running backs so far this season, making Montgomery a solid flex start once again.
Start: Sam LaPorta
Tight end Sam LaPorta has solidified himself as a low-end TE1 option after back-to-back weeks of touchdown-scoring involvement in the Lions offensive game plan. LaPorta is averaging 4.3 catches on 5.5 targets per game, locking him into starting lineups going forward.
Sit: Jameson Williams
The risk of starting Jameson Williams against the Chiefs paid off for fantasy managers who did so. Williams had his best game since Week 2, putting up double-digit fantasy points for just the second time in 2025.
However, he's a pretty play once again on Monday night against a mid-tier Tampa Bay defense vs. opposing receivers. Desperate managers could plug him into a flex/WR3 spot, but grabbing a Sterling Shepherd or Wan'Dale Robinson this week might be a better bet.
