Live Coverage: Clemson takes on powerhouse Duke in ACC Tournament

Brad Brownell’s ClemsonTigers are back on the floor Friday night in Charlotte with a spot in the ACC Tournament championship game at stake.

Clemson is coming off a dramatic 80-79 win over fourth-seeded North Carolina in Thursday night’s quarterfinals at Spectrum Center. The Tigers built a big second-half lead before holding off a furious late push from the Tar Heels to secure the win.

Now Clemson will try to take down another college basketball powerhouse when it faces top-seeded Duke in the semifinals.

The Tigers (24-9) controlled much of the game against North Carolina. Clemson used a 12-1 run in the first half to grab a 39-31 lead at halftime and pushed the advantage to 18 points early in the second half. UNC trimmed a 15-point deficit down to one in the closing seconds, but Clemson went 7-for-7 at the free-throw line over the final 3:30 to close out the victory.

Nick Davidson led the Tigers with 17 points in the quarterfinal win. Dillon Hunter added 14 points, RJ Godfrey finished with 13, Ace Buckner scored 11, and both Butta Johnson and Jestin Porter chipped in 10 as Clemson placed six players in double figures.

Duke (30-2), ranked No. 1 in both the AP Top 25 and the USA TODAY Coaches Poll, also needed a late push in its quarterfinal matchup. The Blue Devils erased an eight-point second-half deficit to edge Florida State 80-79. Isaiah Evans led Duke with 32 points while Cameron Boozer added 23.

Friday night’s Clemson vs. Duke matchup will tip off at 9:30 p.m. ET at Spectrum Center in Charlotte. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2, with Dave O’Brien and Cory Alexander on the call and Molly McGrath reporting from the sidelines.
