No. 3 LSU opened up the home slate in Death Valley with a Saturday night in-state matchup with Louisiana Tech.
One week ago, LSU went on the road and beat a Top 5 Clemson team, pushing the Tigers from No. 9 into the Top 3 of the AP Top 25 – the highest ranking for the program since the 2019 National Championship season.
LSU entered the matchup as more than 30-point favorites on BetMGM.
The game is streaming-only, meaning it can only be watched with ESPN+/SECNetwork+. The game kicked off at 6:32 p.m. CT.

Slow-paced third quarter pushes the lead to 17-0
09/06/2025 08:51:45 PMLouisiana Tech got the ball to start the second half, and – no surprise – LSU’s defense forced the team’s fifth punt on five drives (the lone other Louisiana Tech possession being one where the Bulldogs kneeled out the clock before half). LSU got the ball and hit a couple big gains in the passing game to transfer wide receivers Nic Anderson and Barion Brown, but back-to-back incomplete passes from Nussmeier to Anderson and Chris Hilton ended the drive and forced the Tigers to punt. The defense quickly answered with a three-and-out thanks to a third down sack by Whit Weeks, and LSU’s offense made good on the field position with a drive that ended with run-heavy sets that leaned on Caden Durham, who punched it in from inside the 5-yard line after his third carry in a row. With two minutes left in the third quarter, LSU went up 17-0, forced another three-and-out on a three straight incomplete passes by Louisiana Tech, and got the ball back on offense to start the fourth quarter.

LSU held Louisiana Tech to four punts on the team’s first four drives of the game, with the fifth drive for the Bulldogs resulting in the visitors kneeling out the clock and heading to the locker room for halftime. LSU’s first quarter was sluggish, and the Tigers scored a touchdown with 12 seconds left in the quarter after the first two drives resulted in an interception and missed field goal from 50-plus yards out. The Tigers woke up on offense with back-to-back scoring drives of 98 yards and 85 yards, but the 85-yard drive resulted in a field goal after Nussmeier’s third-and-goal pass attempt fell incomplete. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs never threatened to score on the Tigers in the first half.

09/06/2025 07:38:15 PMAfter scoring a touchdown on a 98-yard drive, the LSU offense started the following drive on the team’s own 15-yard line. And, once again, the Tigers got into the red zone with a long drive. This time, an incomplete pass on third-and-goal from Nussmeier to wide receiver Kyle Parker resulted in a field goal and not a touchdown as Ramos was called on and converted the 23-yard field goal with 6:24 left in the first half.

09/06/2025 07:32:09 PMWhen LSU starting center Braelin Moore was injured on the first snap of the game, he left the field for the locker room with the medical staff. Ahead of the offense’s fourth drive in the first half, Moore returned to the sidelines with a helmet and began to warm up. Around the same time, LSU’s radio broadcast said Moore would not return in the first half and be reevaluated at halftime. Chester remained in the game for LSU on Drive No. 4 after filling the void left by Moore’s injury on the offense’s second snap of the night.
LSU defense holds Louisiana Tech to three punts on three drives
09/06/2025 07:29:16 PMThe LSU defense put on a clinic in a 17-10 road win over Clemson in Week 1, and in Week 2 the Tigers picked up where the unit left off in South Carolina. Even with an interception and a missed field goal giving Louisiana Tech good field position on multiple drives, LSU defensive coordinator Blake Baker’s defense held the Bulldogs to three punts on the team’s first three drives of the game – a stretch that played out past the midway point of the second quarter.
LSU drives 98 yards, transfer WR gets his first TD of the year
09/06/2025 07:25:13 PMLouisiana Tech’s punt pinned LSU at the team’s own 2-yard line, but Nussmeier and the Tigers rebounded from an interception and missed field goal by driving the entire 98 yards on 11 plays. The result: Nussmeier hit Oklahoma wide receiver transfer Nic Anderson in the endzone for his first touchdown as a Tiger. With just 12 seconds left in the first quarter, LSU got on the board with a 7-0 lead.

LSU misses a FG … but gets a starter back on the field
09/06/2025 07:40:26 PMLSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier was intercepted on the first drive of the game on a play when wide receiver Barion Brown had enough separation for a potential touchdown, and the second drive on offense resulted in a 51-yard field goal missed by kicker Damian Ramos. The score was still tied at 0-0 when LSU took the field again with less than six minutes left in the first quarter, but the silver lining was the return of Davis at right tackle, who got the green light to return to the field after being injured on the prior drive.

09/06/2025 07:40:20 PMTwo goals in a game when team’s are favored by 30-plus points: Win and get out of the game without injuries. Five minutes into the home opener against Louisiana Tech, LSU had not just one notable injury, but two. On the first series, starting center Braelin Moore left the game after his ankle was rolled on during a play. On the second series, starting right tackle Weston Davis went to the ground and left for the sidelines. With a 0-0 tie and 10 minutes left in the first quarter, the Tigers were already down two of the five new starters on the 2025 team’s offensive line.
