Local girls soccer team raising funds for league fees
The DKSC ETX girls soccer teams are raising funds to participate in the Elite Clubs National League – Regional League – North Texas.
The ENCL-RL-North Texas is a more elite league than the girls played in previously, according to Coach Johnnie Compian, who said the girls were invited to participate in the league.
Compian said this will be his second year to coach the team. The season runs from September through November.
With more elite status, comes larger league fees. According to one parent, the league fee per team is $4,450 and the group is divided into two age groups – 2010-2011 and 2012-2013.
Team members have been conducting fundraisers to cover the league fees, including a bake sale July 3 at the Texas National Bank. Dressed in uniform, the team members offered a variety of sweet treats in conjunction with the bank’s own July Fourth hot dog cookout.
Erica Gresham, parent of a team member, said being part of the team can be expensive. Aside from league fees, for which the team is conducting multiple fundraisers, uniforms for a single player can cost $600. She said the new league will help the girls become better players, many of whom she said intend to play for Jacksonville High School.
Gresham also said the local community has been very supportive of the team’s fundraisers for which they are very grateful.
The next fundraiser for the team is a gift card raffle. The plan is to post the information to the DKSC ETX Compian 2010-2012 Facebook page July 12, with a winner chosen during a live stream Aug. 8. The team will accept payments through Cash App and Venmo.
