Local Roundup: Kightlinger helps Meadville beat Maplewood in softball
The Meadville softball team beat Maplewood 8-4 in a non-region game Monday.
Lila Kightlinger had a home run and six RBIs for the Bulldogs. On the mound she struck out 11 and gave up two earned runs. Sofie Pierce added two runs, an RBI and a double. Addyson Kregel had two runs scored.
Brianna Kope had two RBIs and a double for the Tigers. Jorja Holeva had seven strikeouts for Maplewood.
Meadville (3-0) travels to face Erie at 4:30 p.m. today for a Region 6 game.
Maplewood (2-1) travels to face Conneaut at 4 p.m. on Wednesday for a non-region game.
Oilers hold on to win
STONEBORO — The Oil City softball team led 6-0 and held on for a 7-6 non-region win over Lakeview on Monday.
Hope Harriett had three runs scored, two doubles and a RBI. On the mound, Harriett had 4.1 innings pitched, striking out eight and giving up two earned runs. Layla Femlee had two RBIs and a double. Abby Fiedor had a triple.
Oil City (1-2) hosts Grove City today at 4 p.m. for a Region 5 game.
Sharon downs Oil City
SHARON — The Oil City baseball team fell 14-4 in five innings to Sharon in a Region 2 game on Monday.
Casey Rybak had a run and an RBI.
Four Oilers saw time on the mound. Zach Love had Oil City’s only two strikeouts.
Oil City (2-2 overall, 0-2 Region) hosts Greenville today at 4 p.m. for a non-region game.
Franklins bests Maplewood
GUYS MILLS — The Maplewood baseball team fell 6-4 to Franklin in a non-region game on Monday.
Individual statistics were not reported.
Maplewood (1-3) hosts Corry at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday for a non-region game.
Franklin (6-2) hosts Sharon at 4 p.m. on Wednesday for a Region 2 game.
