Longhorns basketball adds German forward from Real Madrid

On Tuesday morning, Texas Longhorns basketball added to their 2025 class. The Longhorns secured a commitment from 18-year-old power forward Declan Duru. Last month, he played for Real Madrid's U19 team, averaging 12 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. With Duru in the mix, the Longhorns have some much-needed height, which they previously lacked.
In Duru, Texas is adding one of the most talented players left on the board. He was ranked as the No. 87 overall prospect and No. 19 power forward in the 2025 class by On3. He is the second international player to commit to the Longhorns, joining Lewis Obiorah.

As Duru adjusts to a new program, he will be one of many new faces in Austin. Over the last few months, head coach Sean Miller has been busy reshaping the roster. Miller has been particularly busy in the transfer portal, where he brought in Dailyn Swain, Simeon Wilcher, Lassina Traore, and Matas Vokietaitis.
During his time overseas, Duru has shown the ability to stretch the floor while playing good defense. That is a role that former Longhorn Arthur Kaluma thrived at. He signed with the Lakers just a few weeks ago. In his freshman season, Duru will tasked with helping replace his production.

After failing to meet expectations last season, the Longhorns are eager to start over. That is partly why Miller has gotten creative when it comes to bringing in talent. They hope that Duru is the next big man to make an impact in Texas.
Due to his ability to play multiple positions, Duru should have no issues finding playing times. He has shown that he has the potential to be a special player on the global stage, and now Duru will get to improve his game while playing in one of the best conferences in the nation.
