LSU Earns #2 Seed for NCAA Tournament

For the fifth consecutive year, March Madness will be held inside the PMAC.

Kim Mulkey’s Tigers earned a #2 seed for the NCAA Tournament, meaning they will be a hosting site for first and second round games. It’s the first time the Tigers have been a 2-seed since 2008; the past four seasons they’ve been a 3-seed.

LSU will begin its tournament run against the #15 seed Jacksonville on Friday at a time to be determined. Should LSU win, they will play the winner of #7 Texas Tech vs. #10 Villanova on Sunday.

LSU is the No. 2 seed in UCLA’s side of the bracket. Reigning national champion UConn is the No. 1 overall seed. while Texas and South Carolina are the other 1-seeds. The Women’s Tournament is once again using two cities to host the entirety of the second weekend, with this year’s locations being Fort Worth and Sacramento. Bad news for LSU fans hoping to travel: LSU would be going to Sacramento should they advance to the Sweet 16.

If we’re looking for some storylines on LSU’s potential path to a Final Four here’s two big ones. First, LSU could rematch with #3 Duke in the Sweet 16; LSU beat the Blue Devils pretty convincingly (93-77) in Durham during the SEC/ACC Challenge.

Second, if there’s chalk throughout the Sacramento 2 Region, that would mean LSU would play UCLA in the Elite 8 for a second consecutive season. The Bruins, of course, ended LSU’s season last year in Spokane.
