Madison Keys drops a hint about life after tennis — and it’s very exciting
Madison Keys is part of the huge wealth of American talent, particularly on the WTA Tour.
And, in 2025, she was one of two Americans to win a Grand Slam title, beating Aryna Sabalenka in the Australian Open final.
It marked a heroic culmination of years of hard work and means that whenever she retires, she can do so knowing she’s accomplished something most could only dream of.
Rather ironically, the concept of retirement was mentioned rather recently, discussing what she might do when she calls time on her playing career.
Madison Keys shares what she hopes to do when she leaves the sport
After booking her place in the Charleston semi-finals, Madison Keys was asked about her podcast and how she feels about social media.
Keys spoke about how much fun she’s having with the podcast, even mentioning that it’s made her think about taking on a pundit role once her playing days are over.
The American said: “It’s definitely been a lot of fun.
“It’s always fascinating for us to see what fans want to know. Obviously, we get to the press conferences and receive these questions, and we know what to expect, while the fans sometimes focus on it differently, and it’s very fun to talk about something a little different. I think it’s also fun to give our perspective on things.”
“I think that sometimes there are so many things that are happening that no one understands, what we think about certain things. This is opening my eyes to maybe having a new job after tennis.”
Discussing the toxicity of social media, Keys also added: “I have always known that you have to be positive, and I think that’s the hardest part.
“We continuously address the negative comments that are read on social networks, but there are also a lot of positive people who are there, and we can see all those comments as well. But, unfortunately, it is those who have negative comments that leave a big wound.
“In my case, with the podcast, it is difficult to talk, because I don’t like that the 15 bad comments eclipse the hundreds of good ones.”
Madison Keys could face Jessica Pegula in the Charleston final rematch
Jessica Pegula has already claimed one head-to-head matchup against Madison Keys this year, taking their Australian Open encounter, so Keys will be eager to even the score if they meet again in Charleston.
Their paths could cross again this week, with both players just one win away from setting up a potential rematch.
Yuliia Starodubtseva stands between Keys and the final, but after her comeback win over Belinda Bencic, Keys looks well placed to get through.
Pegula’s route is less straightforward. She faces Iva Jovic, who has been playing some strong tennis and won’t be an easy out.
Their overall record is split at two wins each, adding another layer of intrigue to a possible showdown later this week.
