The Miami Marlins experiment with right-hander Chris Paddack has come to an end, as he was designated for assignment on Tuesday, according to The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal. The Marlins signed Paddack to a one-year ($4 million) contract in the offseason after trading away right-hander Edward Cabrera to the Chicago Cubs.
In seven games (six starts) with the Marlins, the 30-year-old went 0-5 with a 7.63 ERA and allowed a major league-leading 26 earned runs.
Chris Paddack has not been good in his career
Throughout his eight years in the big leagues, Paddack has not been a great pitcher, with a 4.79 career ERA. A former eighth-round pick of the Marlins in the 2015 MLB Draft, Paddack was shipped out west to the San Diego Padres a year later (2016) in a trade for right-handed closer Fernando Rodney.

Paddack would spend three seasons with the Padres (2019-2021) and go 20-19 with a 4.21 ERA in 61 games (60 starts). The Padres would then trade Paddack to the Minnesota Twins in April of 2022, where he went 10-14 with a 4.88 ERA in 45 games (43 starts).
Paddack was traded for the second time in his career last season, when the Twins shipped him to their divisional rival, the Detroit Tigers, where he went 2-3 with a 6.32 ERA in 12 games (seven starts). If Paddack is to find another job this season, it would likely be with the Colorado Rockies or Chicago White Sox, as both need and could use veteran starting pitching.
