Matthew Stafford passes 9-time Pro Bowler on Rams' all-time passing yards list

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford has put together a strong start to his 2025 campaign, throwing for 1,114 yards in the first four games on the season, and on Thursday, he had arguably his best game of the year so far, completing 63.8% of his passes for 389 yards and three touchdowns with a 111.0 passer rating.

Stafford's performance against the San Francisco 49ers actually moved him up the list of Rams' all-time passing yard leaders. In 62 games, Stafford has thrown for 16,203 yards, which is now good for fifth after he passed Norm Van Brocklin on Thursday.

Van Brocklin played for the Rams for 13 years from 1949-57 and threw for 16,114 yards in 140 games. He played another three seasons for the Philadelphia Eagles before serving as head coach for the Minnesota Vikings (1961-66) and Atlanta Falcons (1968-74) and running backs coach at Georgia Tech (1979).

The 1949 fourth-round pick made nine Pro Bowls and four All-Pro teams, won two NFL championships and one NFL MVP award in his career. To his day, he holds the record for passing yards in a game (554).

Jim Everett (23,758), Marc Bulger (22,814), Roman Gabriel (22,223) and Jared Goff (18,171) are the four quarterbacks still ahead of Stafford on the Ram's passing yards list. If he stays healthy, he should pass Goff before the end of the year.

Stafford is also just 50 yards aways from passing former Miami Dolphins quarterback Dan Marino for the ninth-most passing yards in NFL history. That's something he should accomplish next week against the Baltimore Ravens.
