Max Bredeson hails Michigan’s Jordan Marshall, Justice Haynes as dynamic RB duo for 2025

Michigan fullback Max Bredeson called the Wolverines' new running back tandem of Jordan Marshall and Justice Haynes 'unbelievable,' but we have yet to see what either can truly do.

Marshall was injured throughout most of his freshman campaign, but carried the load admirably, eclipsing more than 100 yards against Haynes' former Alabama team. Haynes, a former five-star, had languished as a change-of-pace back behind quarterback Jalen Milroe, and running backs Jase McClellan and Jam Miller. But after transferring to Ann Arbor, he should be featured a lot more heavily.

Given that Michigan has tended to go for more of a 'thunder and lightning' approach to the running backs room (though it hasn't always worked out that way), how does the new duo compare or contrast to one another?

In terms of demeanor, they are quite different.

"Very similar and very different at the same time," Bredeson said. "Jordan's a little more outgoing, and Justice will kind of come in and be a little outgoing. They're like good friends. Two different energies, like different types of guys."

But in terms of playing on the field, they're pretty close to the same, Bredeson says. Which might not be a bad thing, so long as their running style is yielding positive results against whatever defensive front they face.

In fact, as Bredeson says, it could be a nightmare for an opposing defense, as the shared workload will keep both bruising yet fast tailbacks fresh throughout each game.

"If you were to line them up both, they look like the same running back," Bredeson said. "They both have that home run speed, so it's hard to give them the thunder and lightning type thing that everyone wants to see. But both can hit the home run, and both are plenty willing to get downhill. 

"If I were to compare them, I'd say they're pretty similar. But two running backs that can wear you down over time. Once one gets worn down, here comes the next one."

Fans already got a glimpse of both (Marshall vs. Alabama, Haynes in the spring game), but will get to see a whole lot more of them on August 30 when the Wolverines open up the 2025 season against New Mexico.
