Micah's 5 takeaways from Big Ten football in Week 2

For a majority of the teams in Big Ten football, it was a commanding week. Most teams head into Week 3 at 2-0. That cannot be said for all teams in the conference; some revealed weaknesses in a Week 2 loss. The USC Trojans have to like what they saw this weekend in many of their opponents' performances.

Here are my five takeaways from Big Ten football for Week 2:

Michigan State will be a good first test for USC

Michigan State is coming off a battle versus Boston College that went two overtimes. Aidan Chiles will pose problems for the Trojans with his dynamic dual-threat ability. The Spartans are not the best of the best of the Big Ten, but they are a team that will challenge USC more than recent opponents. This is a good game in conference play for the first month of this season.

Bryce Underwood showed his age Saturday in a big game

I predicted Bryce Underwood to be the best quarterback on the field in his matchup against Oklahoma, but that certainly was not the case. He is a very talented quarterback, but he is still young and inexperienced. Oklahoma's really good defense rattled Underwood and got him out of his comfort zone. Oklahoma forced Underwood to beat the Sooners with his arm and he could not get it done. Oklahoma might have just handed USC the blueprint on how to have success versus Michigan.

Illinois, while dominant, is still a flawed team

Illinois won this game 45-19, but I think this was a game the Blue Devils gave away to Illinois. Duke played with the Illini for majority of the game, but the Blue Devils got in their own way time and time again. Duke had 3 red zone turnovers and a muffed punt in its own red zone. If Duke could have gotten out of its own way, it could have made this a real game. I left this game thinking Illinois is not a team that will trounce the Trojans. USC can beat Illinois.

Iowa's passing attack is still non-existent:

Quarterback Mark Gronkowski was supposed to come in and elevate the Hawkeyes passing attack, because how good he was at the FCS level as a passer. So far Gronkowski in 2 games has been 21-39 for 127 yards passing, 1 touchdown, and 1 interception. This Hawkeyes offense is still very limited and if they do not have a big day in the run game more than likely they are losing that football game.

UCLA might be the Big Ten's worst team

UNLV got its first Big Ten win in over 22 years Saturday versus UCLA. This is as bad as it gets for Nico Iamaleava and DeShaun Foster. Nico Iamaleava threw the game-clinching interception, continuing a less than ideal start for him and the Bruins. The Bruins were down 23-3 at halftime to unranked UNLV. To make matters worse, Tennessee continues to look better offensively and has to feel it made the right decision with Joey Aguilar under center. So far UCLA giving Nico Iamaleava seven figures to be its starting quarterback might be the decision that sinks the ship for the Bruins.
