Milford names interim athletic director after Peter Boucher resigns

Longtime softball coach and dean of students Steven DiVitto will take over as Milford's interim athletic director after Peter Boucher resigned following 12 years in the position, the school announced Thursday.

Boucher will become the wellness director for another community.

DiVitto has been the dean of students for the past five years. He is a Milford grad and coached the Scarlet Hawks softball program since 2014, winning a state title in 2017. His familiarity with Milford athletes extends to managing its American Legion baseball team for the past dozen years. He will step down as Milford's softball coach to focus on the athletic director role.

"I’d like to make this as smooth a transition as possible for all of our student-athletes, coaches, and families.  I look forward to carrying on the continuity and great tradition of Milford Athletics," DiVitto said in a release.

Boucher started as Milford's athletic director in 2014. The Scarlet Hawks won 12 state championships (seven in cheerleading, four for wrestling and one in softball) during his tenure and captured 39 league championships.

Milford High School senior Marco Monteiro, who committed to play football at Brown University, gets a fist bump from Milford athletic director Peter Boucher at a National Letter of Intent signing ceremony at the high school on Dec. 15, 2021. Next to Monteiro is his mother, Nilzete Da Penha Welten Monteiro.

"Peter has had a profound impact on the Athletic Program at Milford High.  We offer one of the largest and more robust programs in the state for high schools our size," Milford principal Josh Otlin said in a release. "Overseeing such a diverse number of sports, with teams at the sub-varsity and varsity level in most sports, requires a lot of coordination and effort. Peter has been an excellent leader and advocate for our student-athletes and coaches
