Minnesota Vikings OC offers up high praise to newly extended Josh Oliver

The Vikings' offense is loaded top to bottom with players who have proven vital to its entire ecosystem. One of those players, Josh Oliver, was given a contract extension this week before the start of rookie minicamp.

One of his coaches, offensive coordinator Wes Phillips, spoke to the media on Wednesday, and he couldn't hold back his excitement and praise for the Vikings' tight end. Phillips has been with Minnesota since 2022, while Oliver joined the team in 2023. The two have worked together to develop the former San Jose State tight ends' tools.

That is why Phillips's praise makes sense, given the work the two have done together.

"No disrespect to anyone else, but I think Josh Oliver is the best blocking Y with pass-game value in the NFL."

In recent weeks, during their positional breakdowns this summer, PFF has made it a point to remind people just how good they see Oliver when they get to tight ends.

PFF ranked Oliver 21st by them, and they highlighted his blocking grade as a major reason why. In the last two seasons, he trails only George Kittle in that department, so it speaks to how vital he is to the Vikings' offense while it frees up T.J. Hockenson to do what he does best.

Like we said, the Vikings offense is an ecosystem, and Oliver plays his part perfectly.
