Mitchell's Londyn Schroeder claims first place at P-G Invite
Sep. 28—PLATTE, S.D. — Mitchell High School junior Londyn Schroeder continued her strong 2025 cross country season, winning the varsity girls race at the Platte-Geddes Invitational on Saturday at Lake Platte Golf Course.
Schroeder sailed to a time of 20 minutes, 50.68 seconds, finishing more than a half-minute ahead of the rest of the field. Kernel teammate Averi Gerfen (22:16.71) took eighth place.
Host Platte-Geddes won the girls team title with 44 points, led by top finisher Berklee Mills (22:01.93), who took fifth individually. Also for the Black Panthers, Charlotte Qualm (22:19.23), Marlee Meyerink (22:53.07) and Dulcie Veurink (23:20.92) all finished inside the top 20.
Mitchell Christian took second place in the team standings with 57 points, as Laura Nemec (21:43.20) grabbed third place individually as the top Golden Eagle. Amy Henderson (22:29.97) and Hannah DeLine (22:30.82) were also in the top 12 individually for MCS.
Scotland's Elle Hlavac (21:22.41) was the individual runner-up, with Tripp-Delmont/Armour's Jordan Chessmore (21:49.01) in fourth to round out the top five individuals alongside Schroeder, Nemec and Mills.
The 4,000-meter junior varsity girls race was won by Mitchell's Skylar Lawson (17:29.62), while Freeman's Ava Schultz (10:44.88) won the 2,500-meter junior high girls race.
On the boys side, Mitchell Christian's Silas Holdeman won the varsity race in 16 minutes, 27.39 seconds, pacing the Golden Eagles to a team title.
Luke Mentele (17:12.74) and Sawyer Holdeman (17:47.80) came in third and fourth, while Luke Atnip (18:52.75) and Brady Asbenson (19:48.79) were also in the top 20 for the Golden Eagles. MCS posted a team score of 34 points, checking in well ahead of second-place Freeman (64) and third-place Mitchell (75).
Freeman's top finisher was Lane McCune (18:23.04) in seventh, followed right behind by teammates Collin Randall (18:26.30) in eighth and Luke Miller (18:29.27) in ninth.
Mitchell's Hunter Patton (16:56.28) claimed runner-up position individually. Micah Bennett (18:45.44), Ben Gerlach (19:09.40) and Karsten Herges (19:27.49) were also in the top 16 for the Kernels.
The lone non-MCS or MHS runner in the top five individually was White River's Elijah Haukaas (17:48.57).
The 4,000-meter junior varsity boys race was won by Mitchell's Will Mullenmeister (15:40.41), while Burke's Kamrin Liewer (9:53.77) won the 2,500-meter junior high boys race.
