MLB Makes All-Star Game Announcement on Dodgers Catcher Will Smith originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

The Los Angeles Dodgers entered Wednesday's slate of MLB action with the best record in the league after wresting it away from the Detroit Tigers.

Last season's World Series champions have experienced an incredible season with Shohei Ohtani, manager Dave Roberts and others leading the way headed toward what could be another World Series victory.

On Wednesday, Major League Baseball made an announcement on Dodgers catcher Will Smith of the Dodgers catcher's latest reward.

Smith, who is hitting .320 this season with 10 home runs and over 40 RBI, will get the respect he deserves later this month as his All-Star Game fate was revealed.

"Will Smith earns his first All-Star Game start!" MLB on X wrote.

"He'll represent the @Dodgers as the NL starting catcher." 

The selection of Smith, now 30 years old, comes during his seventh season in MLB, all of them with the Dodgers.

Smith has yet to finish a season above the .300 mark after hitting .248, .261 and .260 in his previous three seasons.

His .949 OPS ranks him among the league leaders, showing off his incredible season at the plate for the Majors' best team at this point in the season.

Smith was taken with the 32nd overall pick in the first round of the 2016 MLB draft and now has a chance to show off the skills that made him one of the most sought after prospects that season in front of an entirely different type of audience, with Dodges fans and fans across the league expected to tune in.
