MSU basketball gets good news in recruiting battle for elite SG prospect

A priority target for the Spartans has reportedly cut a pair of teams from his consideration. And Michigan State is not one of them.

High-end four-star shooting guard Jasiah Jervis has reportedly cut Oregon and Texas out of the list of schools he's considering at this point in his recruitment. Rivals/On3 recruiting insider Joe Tipton reported the notable Jervis news on Friday.

Jervis holds a recruiting rating of 98.70 in 247Sports' composite system, and is essentially just on the fringe of becoming a five-star prospect. He ranks as the No. 34 overall prospect and No. 2 shooting guard in 247Sports' composite rankings for the 2026 class.

Michigan State has been prioritizing Jervis in their recruiting efforts for the 2026 class. Jervis recently took an official visit to Michigan State during the annual "Grind Week" event, and head coach Tom Izzo has made trips out to see him in back-to-back weeks since then. It was also recently reported by Michigan State insider Justin Thind that the Spartans are going "all-out" for Jervis' commitment.

With the Longhorns and Ducks out of the running for this prized recruit, Michigan State is now competing against Pitt, NC State, Florida, Tennessee and Illinois. It's clear that Michigan State is making Jervis a top priority, and hopefully cutting out Oregon and Texas means he's nearing a decision that would include our Spartans coming out on top in this massive recruiting battle. We will have to continue to monitor his recruitment as there is currently no known commitment date for Jervis.
